yes, ipod should be allowed at highschool. they would be used for learning, as a calculator, for some rewarding free time and some apps could help us with our learning. we could listen to music while in class. this would make us quiet and easy to control.
they shouldn’t be allowed to have them all the time. i don’t really like ipods so i probably wouldn’t use one.

they are a benefit because you can use your calculator and if you have your headphones in you wont be distracted, plus you will be able to concentrate more because their wont be any noise being made by other students.
By: cody on June 3, 2010

yeah, i agree that ipods should be allowed

lol ya listen to music
By: Simon on June 3, 2010

i think they should be allowed at school because some people learn better when they listen to music and some people like to go off in their own zone and it is rather hard when you have nothing to help you with that plus the added downer of having a distracting class.
calculators are also helpful when they don’t have an actual calculator.
By: Kathryn Offer on June 3, 2010

But the only down fall to that is people may have the music up to loud and can completly ignore the teacher and other students while there trying to speak.
By: grayson on June 3, 2010

I think we should have ipods and phones in class because they can help and benifit our leraning. ipods can be used in our class rooms as a calculators and some of them can pick up wifi and also we can download applications that can help us in our classes such as class book sets and there is a heap of other apps you can download for school. Podcasts are also grate to download that would help us at school !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By: tori on June 3, 2010

I think we should be able to use ipods and phones in class because they can benifit our learing. Ipod come with a calculator and some have access to pick up wireless internet.
Most of the students at school have ipods so there is really no problem there. There are many application on itunes that include; dictionaries, measurement converters, calculators, and many more. you can even download books.
The seals students have laptops we should at least be able to have ipods and phones.
By: grayson on June 3, 2010
at 2:37 pm
this is a good idea becasue nerly every one brings there phones and i pods to school.
This could benifit are learinng becasue you can use it as a calculater and a dictionary or to look up on the interenet to see information on the web.
Students will be able to acces these becasue pretty much every one has one if you dont have one your probably crazy.
We could use the calculater on the phone/ipod and a dictionary and look on the internet you could use the thing on the i pod touch or i phone to save your work if you typed it up on it and show your teacher and if wecould have one at school it would be the best thing ever
Not really i dont care about this :p
By: Simon on June 3, 2010

that is soo true we shouldn’t have to suffer because we not consentrating enough. the whole reasoning for ipods is for us to use them for different things.
By: megan on June 17, 2010

Yes because having a phone is a part of safety having one in cases of an emergency, you parents may need to get in contact with you all of the sudden, and they wont be able to do this because you dont have your phone on you.
Having a phone benefits our education because phone have apps and calculators this can help us in little moments in class.
Yes people will be able to access these because most people already have a phone because it is a nesesity.
We should be able to use our phone and Ipods.
By: Sam Gonano on June 3, 2010

Yes i think ipods, phoes ect should be allowed in classes. As you can download many different apps that can help with your learning, they sometimes also help some people got work done, so that might help their learning.
By: Jasmine Jesty on June 3, 2010

you will beniefit coz i know that people would stop talking if there waz ipods and phones than all the teachers would have to do is tap u on the back to get there attention and im telling u this because i got my ipod on as i speak and i never do work so does that tell u somthing or wat
By: brandon on June 3, 2010

Why? Because during lunch it could make students relax instead of thinking about work teachers could Bluetooth work to a student?
How will this benefit your education? You could download the book you are reading in English or use your calculator on it.
What handy technologies will be able to be use? Teachers could make pod cast of lesion in case a student has missed a lesion, the calculator “like who is going to forget their calculator now it’s a iPod”, There are so much things you can do use it as a note pad recording, diary etc.

Great suggestions 9C!!!
I think you have really touched on the issues/educational benefits of the Ipod/Smart Phone technology.
You have some excellent ideas on how we can use these ‘New Media Technologies’ in the classroom.
To sum them up:
* Using as a calculator
* Listening in class might help you concentrate
* Reading books off screen
* Bluetooth work to each other
* Podcasting
I agree with Grayson, that we need to consider the volume of the music so that we do not distract others. And Chris believes that we do not need them all of the time- I think a wise comment.
I would like you to think specifically about what applications we could use in the classroom in order to benefit you…
Keep them coming!!!

i think that it should be tryled on the seiner students furst and maby we should consider a year 9 to 12 use of them but you should not be ablowed them for teasts exams and they should be turned off whill you lisen to the teacher
By: shanna on June 3, 2010

The only problems I see would be:
- those students who would use them for evil, texting others outside of the class room etc.
- how would we monitor the sites students access?
- what about the students who like to borrow other students equipment?
Great idea because from a maths teachers point of view students would be more willing to bring an iPod/phone to class to use as a calculator than to bring a calculator itself. If all students had one and could use them the College wouldn’t have to spend so much money on repairing computers.
Just to reply to Simon – I must be crazy because I don’t have an iphone or a flash iPod.
I have said enough now.

yeah we should be able to becasue they help us becasue some of them have calculates and lots of other things that cvan help us with all our school work and junoiiors should get it befiore the seniors becasue we ahev lots more to leearn and we need motre help and iof we use the calculaters we will bne able to do work and get a better education

No i dont think that ipods should be aloud at school because students will just use them for the wrong reasons.
If a student has a older version of an ipod there just going to be teased by others.
So what if you enjoy listening to your ipods your at school to learn not to be distracted by music.
Its hard enough to get student to listen to their teachers and if you have your ipod its just going to make it harder for teachers to controll their classes.
Students could just say that they are using their ipods/iphones for calcuators but realy they could be playing playing games, texting or even going going on social network places.
If ipods were aloud at school i recon that they should only be aloud in sport classes when your running laps of the school oval.
By: Teagz on July 30, 2010

Sport is a great place to have Ipods.
Remember it is all sorts of MP3 players that would be allowed.

although we may find it easier to concentrate with music playing in classes such as art – but if they are allowed in subjects such as english, maths, and humanities, no one will listen to the teachers and therefore will be distracted and not learn.
My opinion is that we should be allowed them when the teachers give permission in class, and there is no further need for discussion with the students – they can THEN use their ipods whilst working.
They shouldnt be allowed in EVERY subject – just some.

By: Dale on August 16, 2010

Although you should want them for more than not having to worry about hiding them..
Apart of the reason MEC has decided to look at the Mp3 player policy is because many of the students already have them.

ipods should be allowed because you could listen to music

By: Mount Erin College on August 16, 2010
at 1:55 pm
i think ipods are a great idea.
having ipods in class would be good but only when class has finished explaining what is to be done.
the headphones shouldnt be in students ears or playing while teachers or students are talking. some students work better with music playing and concertrate on school work insteed of talking to people around them.
Ipods are great and should be allowed in the class room.

I don’t think Ipods are the answer.
It is just another distraction to everyone in the classroom. Why not just have a radio or something in selected classrooms?

They shouldn’t be allowed because they disrupt the classroom and if they are allowed they should only be used in classes that requier creativity.
Teachers should also be tougher in re-inforcing the policy, instead of interpreting that it means the students can listen in all the classes.

I believe that listening to music while doing my work help me concentrate A LOT. Just now I have been working on a persuasive essay about this with the TV on and found that I was continually distracted by the TV. So, I put on my headphones and now can think clearly about what i’m typing. It works the same way when I am in school. I do not concentrate on the music at all; it doesn’t distract me. It just drowns out the distracting sounds(aka TV, talking students, etc.). =)
By: Sophie on February 23, 2011

I think that they shouldnt be allowed because it makes the student not listen to the teacher, but on the other hand they should be allowed because some students concentrate better with music to help them

i think school should be allow ipod cuz ipod can help you to do many thing like calculor something and go searching something and relased your self when you are at room
By: Bazile ken r on March 5, 2011

Yes, schools should allow mp3s because it can help you to do some math problem and it can help you to do research. If something the teacher talks about are, something you do not really know what it mean you can look it up. And if when you got it on ears during the lunch at school it can stop you from trouble because when you got it on your ears you don’t even listen what they talk about that’s all good reasons I think they should be allow computer at school.
